![]() ![]() On one hand, it was awkward because I was still trying to piece together what’s happening between the info dumping and the action on the other hand, it was sort of like going through a checklist of horror scenarios. The ogres who rape Yhalen are brutal and every detail is explicitly drawn out for the reader. ![]() It’s hard to keep track of names that look alike, worse when it’s all in the introduction. There’s just too much information thrown at you before you actually care about Yhalen’s plight: Yhalen is Ydregi, his friend is Yherji, their companion is Yhakinor, and they’re waiting at Nakhanor. ![]() Exposition happens while Yhalen, our protagonist, is running for his life after his BFF/lover is killed by ogres in front of his very eyes. The beginning, however, is tough to get into for two reasons: exposition and rape. The author does a fantastic job at not only avoiding overused tropes but also balancing the story and the sex. ![]()
